Canada, British Columbia, and here in our community. As part of the community, CFBEGA is not immune, and thus, it is impacting our 2020/2021 Business Plan. CFBEGA executives regard the health and safety of our members, and those who support its activities, as the top priority in the implementation of the business plan. After long and careful examination of the first two planned events for this year, Season Opener (planned for 15 May 2020 at Bear Mountain) and Road Trip (planned for 4 – 6 June 2020 at Fairwinds, Campbell River, and Storey Creek); we determined that it is in the best interest of our members to cancel them. Though we did not reach this decision lightly, as cancelling traditional events is disappointing to members, we believe it is consistent with the importance of our members health and safety.

We will continue to evaluate the changing environment around COVID-19, and the remaining three CFBEGA planned tournaments in July (Two Person Best Ball at Gorge Vale), September (Club Championship at Olympic View and Arbutus Ridge), and October (Fall Classic at Highland Pacific). In addition, the Tournament Director will continue to investigate hosting the Season Opener later in June provided it is safe to do so, and golf courses are available.

We recognize the issues and challenges around renewing memberships and accepting new membership applications. We are supported by CFB Esquimalt Naden Athletic Centre staff for membership processing, and thus, we will have to wait until those services are restored. At this time, we don’t have a date for when the membership application processing will continue, and I ask for your patience in this regard. We will advise you once that information becomes available. In due course, we are engaging our affiliated golf courses in accepting last year’s membership cards until the application processing recommences.

In the meantime, I ask you again to please follow the health professionals and golf course guidelines as you go out and enjoy golf responsibly. I believe social/physical distancing will stay with us for a few more months if not longer, so please continue to practice it.
