Message From the President

Last Updated: 31 October 2016

Before I proceed, I would like to take this opportunity and recognize CFBEGA executive committee members’ contributions, their hard work, dedication and commitment in advancing and growing the Association. They are the reason why we accomplished tremendous success in organizing and hosting all CFBEGA events this year. I thank them for all they do, and tip my hat to them.

Next, I would like to congratulate the 2016 CFBEGA Champions in their respective categories:
• CFBEGA Champion – Bill Sandwith
• CFBEGA Net Champions – Kim Ford and Brian Hammond
• CFBEGA Senior Champion – John Smith
• CFBEGA Lady Champion – Sandy Bate

Summary of 2016 accomplishments

Our Association, with membership renewal and new application processing in March 2016, was able to host several first class events.

1. Season Opener at Olympic View Golf Club: We planned for a 72 person field, however, the interest and participation exceeded our expectations. We managed to squeeze in 86 golfers. We received great feedback, everyone enjoyed the golf and amazing food Olympic View prepared for us.

2. Road Trip to Whistler: Once again, this event continues to be a crowd pleaser. Though we had hiccups in planning the first day, we succeeded in including the Nanaimo Golf Club en route to Whistler. 56 members participated and enjoyed this three day road trip event.

3. 2 Person Best Ball Tournament: As you may recall, this event was not part of our Business Plan. However, at the request of members at the AGM, we managed to make it happen by amending our budget through email voting. Thank you all for participating.

4. Club Championship: Yet again, Arbutus Ridge organized a spectacular championship tournament with excellent menu. 88 members played their best to win the CFBEGA championship trophies. Once again, we congratulate all the 2016 champions in their respective categories.

2017 Plan

We expect the 2017 golf season to be another standout year. Since the experimented addition of the 2 Person Best Ball Tournament was a great success, we have decided that it will become a staple in the rotation of events and tournaments hosted by CFBEGA.

The line-up for 2017 golf season will look like:
• Season Opener: Early May
• Road Trip: Early June
• 2 Person Best Ball Championship: Early – Mid July
• CFBEGA Championship: Early September

The executive are working hard to finalize proposals on details of the aforementioned events.

Before we conclude 2016, we will be having an Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 6 December 2016 at the Chiefs & Petty Officers Mess at CFB Esquimalt. This meeting is very important for the following reasons:
• Discuss and approve Constitution and By-law amendments
o Constitution and By-law amendment sections will be posted on our website for at least a month prior to the AGM
• Discuss financial report
• Discuss and approve the 2017 business plan and budget
• Discuss all other agenda items and any new business
• Therefore, AGM attendance is highly encouraged.

In closing, we encourage you to use membership privileges and continue golfing as weather permits. We value your contribution towards continuous improvement of our association. As the executive continue implementing the association’s missions, 2017 Business plan, and the mandate approved at the upcoming AGM; remember to renew your membership when posted on the website in the new fiscal year, and encourage your co-workers and family members to join the CFBEGA.

Please mark 6 December 2016 on your calendars for the AGM, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Happy golfing!
Yours most respectfully,
Mohamed Gudal
President
